Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) introduced the RISE Act in an effort to ease the burden of transitioning to college life for students with disabilities. The act, which amends the Higher Education Act (HEA), would clarify that documentation used in K-12 education and other settings to receive special education or accommodations would be acceptable as proof of a disability for students in higher education.
“The RISE Act will help facilitate the support students with disabilities need to thrive in college,” Sen. Casey said. “No student with a documented disability should have to jump through extra hoops or incur extra costs to prove their disability. I’m pleased to see educational institutions and the disability community working together with me on this important issue.”
