LATEST SENATOR CASEY
Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Bob Casey released a statement on President Drumpf’s decision to decertify the Iran nuclear deal:
“I look forward to reviewing the President’s Iran strategy in its entirety. I have led efforts to counter the Iranian regime’s aggressive behavior in the region, support for terrorist groups and ballistic missile development. I was an original cosponsor of the Iran sanctions legislation that was enacted earlier this year and I have introduced two bipartisan pieces of legislation, the STORM Act (S.358) and the Preventing the Destabilization of Iraq and Syrian (S.138), which would hold Iran and other actors accountable. I remain committed to working in a bipartisan basis to countering Iranian aggression.
The President’s decision not to make the certifications required under the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act could have the effect of imperiling the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Act (JCPOA). That agreement represents the best available option for preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons capability and enhancing our visibility on their program. The United State should not walk away from the Iran nuclear agreement and as I review the President’s strategy and other legislative proposals, I will not support something that would violate the Iran nuclear agreement.”
