LATEST SENATOR KAINE
Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine joined U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and 18 of their Senate colleagues to introduce legislation to rescind President Trump’s Executive Order on Interior Enforcement, which directs the Department of Homeland Security to prioritize the deportation of a vast majority of undocumented immigrants living and contributing to U.S. communities, penalizes sanctuary cities, and drives undocumented communities deeper into the shadows by charging local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration laws.
“This executive order amounts to mass deportation, and that is not the way we should go about addressing the serious problems in our country’s immigration system,” Kaine said. “America is and always will be a nation of immigrants. Tearing families apart without a more comprehensive solution is inhumane and will only hurt our country. I encourage President Trump to seriously consider a bipartisan solution like the Senate’s 2013 comprehensive immigration bill.”
